Sherrie Kaplan, associate dean of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, says "planned patienthood" means taking an active role, thinking through before you even step foot into the doctor's office what you want to get out of the appointment. Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW) is a national education and awareness-building campaign for improving patient safety at the local level.
