PHRs Set Sail on Cruise Lines
Monday, April 19, 2010 | Sarah Dietze

PositiveID and the International Maritime Medical Association have partnered to bring PHR systems to over 1.5 million cruise ship passengers, crew, and port workers. Health Link will be launched this month for up to 1,000 seafarers in Antwerp and Manila.

Cruise ship passengers who become ill often see a doctor at the next port of call. This doctor may or may not have access to the patient’s medical records or health history. PositiveID claims this will cut costs for seafarers by avoiding unnecessary medical procedures.

Health Link connects to Google Health, Microsoft Health Vault, and other EHR systems. The program will be expanded to 1.5 million seafarers on a paid subscription basis after the pilot phase.
