Take a change on technology
Wednesday, May 05, 2010 | Amanda Bushey

Apple recently released an article "iPhone provides vital link to medical records."  This article not only represents, but demonstrates, how technology and patient care can and should work together.  Below is a quote from the article.

"Saving lives means making fast, informed decisions. And at Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital, iPhone instantly delivers the information that physicians need to make critical treatment decisions. The hospital recently developed VitalHub, an in-house built iPhone app that gives physicians secure, remote access to patient records, test results, vital statistics, and medical literature from its vast internal data network. Using VitalHub on iPhone allows Mount Sinai's clinicians to respond more rapidly to patient needs wherever and whenever they arise."

The article outlines four areas of operation:

  • Secure operations
  • Vital apps
  • Convenient bedside reference
  • Future medicine

When technology is used in an efficient and effective way all parties benefit.  Taking a chance on technology gives clinicians the ability to make informed decisions based on information that can easily and quickly be accessed through applications.
